Mr. Bentley is a prominent trial attorney specializing in the representation of consumers on a wide variety of cases, including cases against HMO's who have wrongfully denied coverage for medically necessary care, cases on behalf of fire victims against insurance companies that refuse to replace an insured's lost or damaged home and first party bad faith cases on behalf of businesses and individuals fighting for coverage with their insurance carrier.
He was the Court Appointed Lead Counsel on state-wide class action litigation against the leading automobile liability insurance carriers fighting the industry-wide use of biased computer software designed to undercut the value of billings submitted on medical payment claims. Along with William M. Shernoff, he successfully litigated numerous cases on behalf of senior citizens who had been duped into purchasing deferred annuities through an illegal trust mill operation.
Mr. Bentley also leads the firm's handling of catastrophic personal injury and wrongful death matters. He has obtained more than 15 settlements and verdicts in excess of $1 million dollars.
Mr. Bentley has tried over 20 jury trials to verdict, including a $17.5 million dollar verdict obtained with Michael J. Bidart on behalf of a teenage boy rendered quadriplegic following a diving accident at a camping activity. He most recently received an $870,000 jury verdict against a large medical group for their intentional and negligent interference with a patient's contractual right to receive benefits under an HMO policy on behalf of a client who was wrongfully denied access to a timely MRI to diagnose a massive brain tumor, and then once diagnosed, denied the right to have surgery performed to remove the tumor by a qualified Board Certified Neurosurgeon.
A staunch consumer advocate, Mr. Bentley is the President of the Consumer Attorneys of the Inland Empire, on the Board of the Consumer Attorneys of California and a Member of the Riverside Civil Bench Bar Committee, acting as an attorney liaison with the Courts on behalf of Consumer Attorneys. Mr. Bentley is also a member of the Consumer Attorneys of Los Angeles, the San Bernardino County Bar Association and the Riverside County Bar Association.
